Airport Shuttle

Airport shuttle is a Taxi and shuttle service that operates on airports around the globe, focused on per city fleet management.
In order to deliver a rapid and effective service to their clients, they wanted to have a holistic overview of their fleet without the need of investing inexpensive hardware.
Most of the drivers already own a smartphone that can be used as a mobile transmitter which can pin-point the drivers location.
We built a Drupal based platform, alongisde a node.js service - proxying the queries to pusheapp (a 3rd party socket based notifications platform).

Android mapping with Hebrew or, using the osmDroid API with ease - Part 2: fixed stations (adding non GPS locations to the map).

SUBMITTED BY royi

Hi,
today we will add a new feature to our hebrew enabled mapping Android application that we started last time, this feature will be the ability to set fixed locations (ie stations) on the map.

I would like to start with 2 clarifications:
1. this post is a simplified tutorial for plusminus's amazing OSMDroid project so if my post isn't clear enough you can go directly to the source.

A new version for DrupalNews (and why we opened a sandbox for Drupal's culture)

SUBMITTED BY lior

We have been hacking with android and drupal for quite a while but we finally got a chance to give "DrupalNews" some love.
Our inspiration for updating the app was based on Johan Falk from nodeone, who built a bunch of RSS feeds which are more fitting to the new github/sandboxed era on drupal.org.
This got us back on track integrating the new feeds and rethinking the app.
As we played with the app (and reflecting on node one's kitten killers meme) we understood that we need another feed - The culture feed.

Android mapping with Hebrew or, using the osmDroid API with ease.

Hello,
last week i had the honor of attending an Android developers meeting that was organized by the "Israeli cantina" (http://www.cantina.org.il/) and was sponsored by "Google".
During the mingling portion of the evening it became apparent that the only thing that was greater than the interest in creating Android mapping applications in hebrew is the difficulty in doing so, so in this post i would like to share a bit of my experience in doing just that.

Recent case studies in Linnovate's mobile projects.

SUBMITTED BY royi

Since last year Linnovate's mobile team took part in some very complexed projects that utilizes the newest and most innovative technologies and i think it is about time that i'll blog on some of them:

Airport shuttle -
Featured use of HTML5 based web-sockets (push-technologies) via the "Pusherapp.com" API in order to create an LBS application that pin-points the location of an Iphone device and "places" it on a google map in realtime, one other great feature enabled was the ability to send instant messages to the devices.

AR3D - not R2D2 - augmented reality in 3D.

SUBMITTED BY royi

Hello all,
This blog feed is dedicated to augment reality (or "AR").

I was asked to create an Android application that will display a virtual "marker" over "reality" upon the discovery of a "pattern", in short i was asked to create a pattern oriented augmented reality mobile application (not that short, is it?).

Since i'm willing to bet that half of you reread the last line 2 or 3 times and are still wondering what am i blabbing about, this is the time for some glossary:
A mobile pattern oriented AR app workflow is as follows:

Online real-time mapping on drupal sites.

SUBMITTED BY royi

In this post I would like to show a way to combine Drupal OSM (open street maps) interface with websockets push technology, in order to allow drupal based sites to work as a real-time online monitor, for real world physical actions.
Unless you are already familiar with the terms that I have mentioned so far, you probably don't really understand what I am talking about, so as a prologue I'll elaborate on a few key terms:

A Drupal Ecosystem emerging in Palestine?

SUBMITTED BY lior

I'm attending Startup Weekend in TLV which is turning out to be a really great and colorful event.
One of the coolest things is that I finally got to meet Tim Cullen which is leading the development of a local Drupal community in Ramalah.
I'm a big believer in the epic power of open-source to enable communication where none exists or where barriers (technological or political) might limit communication and innovation.
I took ( a low quality and shaky ) video of Tim's presentation.

Drupal News Android Application QR code

About a week ago we launched the Drupal News application for Android. We only worked few days on it, and it's still not perfect, but it does give a wonderful service to Drupal users.

For the proof of concept, we used Drupal.org's feeds:

We also pool #drupal from twitter, and present it as an independent tab.
